When it comes to racing, Morganton’s Gray Leadbetter can’t get enough. She has ridden or driven everything from motocross to rally cars. Her racing background is already impressive — and she’s only 10 years old.
The young racer recently got the chance to compete abroad racing a go-kart in Coronado, Panama at the Club de Kartismo Panameño in the Latin America and Caribbean Tag Series Championship. She finished second in that Aug. 23 race. On Oct. 18, she will return to international competition in Aruba on behalf of Club de Kartismo Panameño.
Leadbetter’s father, Steve Leadbetter, said the opportunity arose while Gray was practicing in a kart at GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville alongside a boy from Central America. That boy’s father turned out to be the owner of Club de Kartismo Panameño.
